UK based ASH anti-smoking group now endorses the Electronic Cigarette

The UK based chapter of ASH organization has now released a document that states that one of the few downsides of the electronic cigarette is that the levels of nicotine as "low", and may not give users the amount of nicotine needed to keep them using the e cigarette over the real thing. They further state their support for other alternatives to tobacco.

Taken from their press release:

"ASH supports a harm reduction approach to tobacco, that is, we see that while efforts to help consumers stop smoking should remain a priority, many people either do not want to stop smoking or find it extremely difficult to do so. For this group, we believe that products should be made available that deliver nicotine in a safe way, without the harmful components found in tobacco. Most of the diseases associated with smoking are caused by inhaling smoke, which contains thousands of toxic chemicals. By contrast, nicotine is relatively safe. Therefore, electronic cigarettes, which deliver nicotine without the nasty toxins found in tobacco smoke, are likely to be a safer alternative to smoking. Also to add, e-cigarettes reduce secondhand smoke exposure since they do not produce smoke."

Empirical evidence from numerous studies conducted by doctors show that 45% of electronic cigarette users stopped smoking tobacco within 8 weeks of starting with the product, along with other studies by trusted companies around the world stating that e cigarettes are between 100 to 1000 times much safer and/or better for the user.

The Electronic Cigarette industry is gaining momentum and acceptance with time.

It looks as though the electronic cigarette is gaining more and more public support to advance the use and widespread use of the e cigarette across the globe.

Smokers are hailing them as the best gadget to hit the market that is effective against the harmful effects of tobacco. The non-smokers have also endorsed the product because of a lack of second-hand smoke. This makes the electronic gadget attractive to the masses in general.

"Support is growing by the day," states Robin Durand, owner of FlyingRobin.com, "I use an e-cigarette myself instead of tobacco and when my friends and family see it, they're amazed and want to know where they can get one for themselves or for the smoker in their lives. They're amazing products and if this product stays legal, there's no way I'll go back to tobacco."

As usual, the FDA and special interest are still looking into the e cigarette industry and there is a federal court case pending on the subject of an injunction to prevent the FDA from turning shipments back to their origin, but does not cover the legality of the electronic cigarette. Some experts are stating that this legal case could go on for years and that people should keep in mind that this case is not about the legality of the e-cigarette, but just over jurisdiction and importation rights. That means that the e-cigarette industry which has been growing exponentially over the last few years, still has a number of years left to make its mark on society.

Governor of California does not support ban of Electronic Cigarettes in California

It has been recently reported on the State of California web site that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has declined to sign Senate Bill 400. On September 11, 2009, the California Senate passed Bill 400. The bill was originally written as "The Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program", and then was amended to ban the sale of electronic cigarettes to minors, which was very supportable. The wording in the bill was then amended to include a ban on the sale of electronic cigarettes in the state of California to adults.

Electronic cigarettes or E Cigarettes as they have become popularly known, have been introduced into the country over the past few years and became increasingly popular as the wave of anti-smoking laws were enacted across the country. The E Cigarette looks, feels, tastes like a tobacco cigarette and requires the same mechanical motions of inhaling and blowing out. They expel a harmless, odorless water vapor that looks like smoke, but isn't. It gives the user the full effect of smoking real tobacco without harsh tobacco smoke and without second hand smoke irritation or offending others. They do not contain the harmful chemicals that traditional cigarettes do. In the US, thousands of smokers have made the switch to electronic cigarettes to in a bid to quit smoking of smoking or change from the harmful effects of tobacco. "I think Governor Schwarzenegger made an intelligent decision" states Kyle Newton of eCigarettesChoice.com. California has always been on the leading edge of being a Green State and the electronic cigarette is a great alternative to tobacco. We can only hope that other states follow this example and examine the electronic cigarette as a harm reduction alternative over the hazardous tobacco cigarette. Besides tar and carbon monoxide, tobacco smoke contains approximately 4,000 different chemical, many of which are known be toxic to humans." It is not surprising that the electronic cigarette industry has come under attack by special interest groups who have yet to produce any scientific evidence that the electronic cigarette is harmful to humans, or that electronic cigarette dealers target younger people with their products. If it is proven that the electronic cigarette can be a more effective smoking cessation device than the patches and gums, the companies who fund these groups will feel a harsh economic crunch.

Rightly so, Governor Schwarzenegger has not buckled under the pressure of special interest groups to take away the freedom and individual rights from the people.

Electronic Cigarettes May be More Effective In Fighting The H1N1 Virus Than The Vaccine!!!!!!

It seems that propylene glycol, the primary ingredient in the e-cigarette cartridge, may be a powerful deterrent against pneumonia, and other respiratory diseases, when vaporized and inhaled. We all know that the swine flu is particularly dangerous for individuals with respiratory ailments.

A doctor called Oswald Hope Robertson of the University of Chicago’s Billings Hospital experimented with propylene glycol on lab mice in 1942. On 16th November the same year, Time magazine wrote "Dr Robertson placed groups of mice in a chamber and sprayed its air first with propylene glycol, then with flu pathogen. All the mice lived. Then he sprayed the chamber with the virus alone. All of the mice died." The analysts also discovered that "the propylene glycol itself was a strong germicide".

Additional studies in monkeys and other animals were undertaken to determine long-term effects, especially the potential for accumulation in the lungs. After a few months of treatment, no ill effects were discovered.

The researchers also found that "the propylene glycol itself was a potent germicide. One part of glycol in 2,000,000 parts of air would--within a few seconds--kill concentrations of air-suspended pneumococci, streptococci and other bacteria numbering millions to the cubic foot." Clinical trials on electronic cigarettes containing propylene glycol were carried out in New Zealand by Dr. Murray Laugeson of Health New Zealand. Far from posing a threat to our health, the propylene glycol in e cigarettes might just keep us healthy. Further studies are being done on the effects of propylene glycol to determine if it can be used successfully as a virus prevention tool. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the best flu preventative was right under our noses all this time?

The Doctors TV Show Gives Electronic Cigarettes the "Thumbs Up"

The Doctors TV show named electronic cigarettes #9 in their Top ten Health Trends for 2009 giving them a particularly positive review in an all new episode on Wednesday last week. The exciting thing I spotted was all the doctors on television show gave the electronic cigarettes and an electrical cigar a try. They each took many drags, with the exception of Dr Lisa Masterson.

Not one of the Doctors on The Doctors TV show is a smoker, but they actually did try the devices. I find that many of the people I converse with ( not doctors by any means ) are frightened to even try taking a drag off one of the cartridges that contains zero nicotine. If the doctors on The Doctors Television show did not hesitate to take some puffs then does this mean the doctors on television show aren't anxious about electronic cigarettes influencing their health? Now the doctors did give an electronic cigarette to a smoker and let her try it before filming the show and then invited her into the studio audience to give her viewpoint. The smoker said that, “she would recommend them.”
Ultimately , the last exciting thing that stuck out in The Doctors' positive review was Dr Travis Stork informing the audience the devices aren't FDA licensed yet, but he announced, and I quote, " I am sure they will be soon."
Keep in mind that regular cigarettes are not FDA approved, and will never be. So I am always reminding people of this fact whenever they suggest that electronic cigarettes need to be FDA authorized to be legally sold in the U.S.A.
The most important point is that the Doctors TV show listed electronic cigarettes as their #9 health trend to look out for in 2009 and I'm exited to see this year shaping up quite nicely already for the e smoking community!
